A wedding has hundreds of moving parts, and they are all time-sensitive. A clear month-by-month checklist turns the chaos into a calm sequence. Here is a 2026 wedding planning timeline you can follow from engagement to the big day.

12+ months out

• Set your budget and rough guest count (they decide everything else).
• Book the venue and lock the date.
• Start the guest list.

9–11 months out

• Book the big vendors: photographer, caterer, band/DJ (they go first).
• Send save-the-dates.
• Shop for attire.

6–8 months out

• Book florist, officiant, cake, transport.
• Plan the honeymoon.
• Order invitations.

3–5 months out

• Send invitations (about 8 weeks before).
• Finalise the menu and cake tasting.
• Buy rings; confirm hair & makeup trials.

1–2 months out

• Chase RSVPs and confirm the final headcount.
• Build the seating chart.
• Give the venue and caterer final numbers; confirm timings with every vendor.

Week of

• Final payments and tips ready in labelled envelopes.
• Confirm the day-of timeline and share it with the wedding party and vendors.
• Pack, delegate, and rest.
