Wedding Budget by Number of Guests (2026)

Your guest count is the number-one driver of what a wedding costs. Around 50% of a typical budget is spent per head — catering, bar, rentals, favours and stationery all scale with the headcount. So the clearest way to plan is to start from how many people you are inviting.

Using a 2026 US benchmark of roughly $350 in all-in cost per guest (catering plus the share of everything that scales), here is what different guest counts tend to cost:

• 50 guests — about $17,500: an intimate wedding; you can spend more per head on food and still stay well under the national average.
• 100 guests — about $35,000: right around the 2026 US average wedding cost.
• 150 guests — about $52,500: a large wedding; fixed costs (photographer, DJ, dress) are now a small share, so the per-guest number dominates.
• 200 guests — about $70,000: a big celebration; small per-head savings make a huge difference at this scale (cutting $20/guest saves $4,000).

Notice the pattern: fixed costs (photography, attire, rings, a DJ) stay roughly the same no matter how many people come, while variable costs grow with every invite. On a 50-guest wedding, fixed costs are a big slice; on a 200-guest wedding they almost disappear into the per-head total.

The fastest way to cut a wedding budget
